Well done cprhed, pictures are great, you did a lot of work just to change Bars. Goes to
show you one thing leads to another, it was not just a simple swap out of the Bars.
John
Thanks,
It felt a bit like Alice in Wonderland falling down the rabbit hole.
I didn't want to get the wrong bars. So I started a little tear down, then used the pvc to get a better idea on height. Then once I decided on 12s I I shopped and decided on flat black to match inner fairing. Which led to new grips, levers, mirrors. I also knew I had to do extensions and new cables/lines. That turned into deciding to do all the front brake lines since it would look better and already be stripped. That led to rebuilding the master cylinder since I would have it dry and disconnected.
All in all I am very satisfied with the way it has turned out (with exception of the seat). I am glad to live in the north where we get several months for these projects. I am glad to have a garage where I could work on it at my leisure. And I am thankful for the helpful folks here as on my own it would either not have turned out as good or would have ended up at a shop.
Still need to figure out what I want to do about the seat because the stock seat looks enormous. But I still have a couple months of winter for that.
Ha ha ha. I just came back to this thread as reference for another member and realized that it has been exactly a year and I left it incomplete, no final pic. Well It is different now, figured out the seat. Ended up with a new windshield (crushed the other one putting it all back together). And now I am about to tear it down again to upgrade the stereo. Winters are starting to get expensive for me.
I like your choice for the mirrors. Are those the Arlen Ness ovals? Sorry if I missed this part, are those 12” bars? Just double checking as I now have 12” monkey bars, and you photo shows what the oval mirrors look like on them, I think?
These are LA Choppers Twin Peaks 12" and yes those are the Arlen Ness mini ovals. If you have fat paws they may not fit under the mirror with gloves on. With my thickest gloves I just barely make contact with the mirror, but nothing that impedes riding.
