I bought my first harley this Feb after a long line of metric and witworth bikes. While it's not what I expected, it is somehow more.
When you come off one bike to another, there is always a time when the bike doesn't act like you expect. After you get used to it, it's ok, but not what you want.
This is true of every machine of any type that I have ever bought.
That said, IMHO, the "thunk" you hear when a 96 lights up is the first cylinder firing into the empty mufflers. There is no back pressure tosmooth out the sound.
I base my observations on my military experience. A motar is a tube with a firing pin at the bottom. The round has the primer and charge attached. When you drop it down the tube, the primer hits the pin and that charge ingites. "THUNK" made me want to eat dirt the first time.
As for those who are up in arms about the money they have spent to make the bike run right,blame the FEDS. The MOCO has to now for the first time meet the same rules as the auto makers have since the Seventies.
Don't worry they will get around to ATV's and boats soon enough. There are more bikes than either of those. They are also going after lawn mowers!
I love my EGC in spite of it's weakneses of maybe because of them.
Harley riders have a reputation of being inventive and overcoming the limitations of the machine. This has been true since the first Harley.
For every whiner there are 5 posts about how to make the bike better.
Grow up, and realize that the bike you are riding maybe a dinosuar. It is very likely that our air cooled V Twins will soon be a thing of the past.[sm=GrowUp.gif]
