2011 Ultra Limited. If i take my hand off the bars the front end will wobble. Will not happen all the time all the time and all speeds. 5300 miles on original tires. Any ideas?
Wise words - the front wheel of a bike is like a supermarket trolley front wheels! Front-end problems can also start at the rear, so check rear tyre wear and pressure as well as bearing condition.
1. There is a grease nipple on the neck. In order to get ant grease to the bearing area you need to fill the neck. Takes about half a tube. Use high temp grease as you do not want it leaking down on the fender.
This is improved but did not make the wobble disappear.
2. Access the steering neck top bearing there is s large nut I forget the size but I needed to buy a new socket. I turned it maybe 1/8 of a turn. I tried it s 1/4 turn but there was hardly any swing as per the steering swing test. 1/8 worked.
I had a similar problem on my '07 Ultra. Strangely enough however it only started after I put my tourpack back on, which I'd had off for several thousand miles. I took the tourpack off and the problem went away but it was soon time for new tires. I put new tires on and shortly after that put the toupack back on but this time no wobble. Solid and true running. Tires!
heres a good thing to check, front motor mount support plate bolts, had one sheared and the other was loose..And the bolts looked ok , the top of the missing bolt was sitting on its perch. Found this after checking a bunch of simple things as described. Not until I went to remove the motor mount did I notice. (pn4648 bolt I think). note:bolt was grade 8 and nut was grade 2 so put a grade 5 nut in.
