what? What proven tech is better than your average TTS or Power vision and Fp3 tuners.
I'm at a loss I agree with the poster that said it's just a lingo issue.

The MOCO tuners are nothing more than a software key, called a dongle, that allows a dyno operator access to the tables in the ECM. With that access they reset the tables in the ECM to perform on the dyno and then the bike is tuned. There are dyno operators that have access to do the same thing direct without the key. This is probably what the dyno operator is meaning by jailbreak. If done properly this will give him a professional dyno tune without any aftermarket tuning device left on the bike and allow the dyno operator to put in any value he wants unlike the restrictive MOCO devices. Only downside is he wont be able to make any changes without taking it back to the same guy but if he doesn't plan to do anymore upgrades, he'll have a nice tune with no add on device that might fail later. It costs more than a FP3 because you are getting a true dyno tune specifically for you bike and they are charging a small fee for going straight to the ECM plus time on the dyno. I've done this before and been extremely happy with the results.

A year or two ago, an indy I go to for tires had recently put in a dyno room. He tried to get me to have my bike dyno'ed. At the time, I told him I didn't have a tuner. I asked him which tuner I would need and he told me I didn't need one. I didn't question him after he told me that because I thought he was full of sh*t. He's kind of a pushy guy and I didn't want to **** him off by questioning his statement. Now, that you've explained how the ECM can be accessed with the dongle, it all makes sense now. Thanks for the information.

He’ll need someone with similar access to the tables, but not inherently this very same person.

It’s intriguing how some ecu’s are commonly hacked while others are not. My Saab for example, there are plenty of tuners for my Saab, but the hardware is cheap and common, and there are forums with tables and instructions.

Just to clarify on the dongle. That's what the MOCO is selling you when they sell you a tuner. It's a simple software key that goes in line on the cables that allows the computer to communicate to the ECM with the software on the computer. It's designed to recognize one ECM and lock to it so that it can only be used on that ECM from now on. I've used dongles in similar applications in PLC controllers. It prevents people from making unauthorized changes without the key installed. I'm not an expert though, so I might be wrong, but my guess is that the dyno operator/tuner is using Delphi software that has been hacked to bypass the need for the key. He can access and adjust all the tables without the EPA restrictions mandated to the MOCO's tuner software and doesn't need any additional device.

And if he's really good and knows his stuff, he's named the file and covered his tracks in the ecm so that if a lazy dealer tech plugged a computer into it, it would appear to them that the bike has a factory stage 1 download.

IMO it's the height of stupidity to spend more money to go this direction when there are soooo many better options that have outstanding customer support and most tuners are familiar with for less money.
My momma had a great saying that I am sure most if not everyone has heard. "A hard head makes a soft ***"
