So this is my 3rd road king. I have 3000 miles in it since June. both fork legs have odd streaky discoloration. The past 2 bikes I had 2013 and a 2014 both did it too. I just wash them with S100 and nothing really special, sometimes dish soap. Has anyone noticed that the coating on the forks chips / streaks / discolors very quickly? I put chrome forks legs on the past 2 bikes, but I just don't want to do it again, I was thinking I'd leave them but in 3000 miles (3 months) the bike already looks terrible.
I'll post pics later, but when I walk thru a parking lot with a lot of FLH's, I notice they all do it... Its some strange clear coat or powder coat that they use? The legs arent actually polished and clear coated..
When I had the OEM lowers I found that frequent use of an aluminum polish (Mother's) could help in keeping them look better.
I have heard that some people are using clear coat (for paint) on their aluminum, including the rims (and wheels on trikes).
I guess the only other options available would either be chrome or black and I'm a chrome "junkie".
I have them on my '13 CVO Ultra and my trike is getting the chrome lowers this week.
