I've always heard that the moco is very tight fisted with CVO paint. To the point you cannot buy painted tins without turning one of the same color back in. No?
not always. i hit a deer back in early november and torqued my front fender. i've ordered a new front fender (thanks progressive) and the dealer is not requesting the old fender back. good thing, since i ordered it online and wouldn't want to pay the shipping back to the dealer. but, yes, i did have to provide my vin number to order it.
Any good auto body paint shop will have the tools required to computer scan and match the paint. The last time I had this done, I took my bike into the shop, and the guy brought out a hand held tool, essentially an electronic paint scanner, placed it gently on 2-4 places on the paint to analyze the paint color, and then the machine tells them how to mix the paint.
With new paint, I believe a good shop can match paint pretty spot on. It gets trickier with older faded paint.
Good luck

Thank you sir, I may give that a try or it may be just as easy to leave the plate holder gloss black as it comes.
