If your going with a bolt in cam only and want a good bang for the buck the 48 gives you a lot of low end grunt for about $225 for the cam's. If your going to do a big bore kit then that changes. I actually kept the stock bore but did excessive head work and raised my comp. to 10.6 to get the woods 777's to come in better.
I was just stating the bolt in only factor for a cam but again if your going to do something else then I'd make it all happen at once, such as big bore etc.

It sucks when we're forced to live within a budget, but the $ I spent last year on my 551 easy start cams really made my 88 come alive. I already had slip on's, a big sucker and a tuner so I was half way there already. I also went gear timed, and don't let anyone tell you that "gears are so noisy"--Hogwash! You may be able to notice a little gear whine but come on, if you have pipes I doubt you'll ever notice it. I love the low end torque and the instant throttle response at low - mid range rpm, and I'll never have the pain in the *** of dealing with chains and tensioners that DO fail eventually ----yes even the upgraded versions. I don't believe there's anything tougher and more maintenance free than good old gears. Just remember to chose all your components to be well matched to one and other so they all come on strong within the same rpm range. Research it mate.
