I downloaded the latest version of the GTS 'System Software Update' - MY19.19.03.00 | MAR 04, 2019 and attempted to install it on my 2019 CVO Street Glide. I put the bike in accessory mode and plugged in the USB drive. It immediately recognized the USB drive and the software update and asked me if I wanted to install it. I proceeded with the installation. After about 15 minutes, the speakers started making a popping sound every 8 seconds - yes I timed it and the screen went completely blank. I could still see the USB flashing as if the bike was pulling data from it. This went on for about 90 minutes and then the bike just shut itself off. I put the bike back into accessory mode with the USB attached and still got a blank screen; at least the speaker popping noise went away. I decided to turn the bike off again, unplug the USB stick, and then put the bike back into accessory mode. The screen came on and read the something like...
software installation process was interrupted please leave ignition in accessories position and plug in USB
I did that and attempted to tap the 'RETRY' button but nothing happened. The screen remained on with the same message but nothing changed and the USB drive was not being read. I decided to turn off accessory mode and put the bike in ignition mode but the same message appeared. I turned the bike off and switched to accessory mode with the USB plugged in and still saw the same message. I tried clicking 'RETRY' but nothing happened. I decided to leave it in accessory mode with the USB plugged in and step away. I came back 20 minutes later and the screen was blank again and the USB was being read. I let this run for about two hours and it was still reading the USB. The USB was being read every 8 seconds and then 18 seconds consistently this entire time. I called it quits and shut the bike off since I was tired as hell.
What do I do? Is there a way to put the radio in a reset mode by using some combination of on and off cycles with button combinations? Is there a service menu that can be accessed to restore it? I have no clue what to do now.
PM Tn.Heritage. He reported the same issue in the M8 Forum, but he never reported back if he resolved the issue or not. Maybe he did and he can tell you the fix.
2019? Why not let the dealer upgrade the software? They should have a good unadulterated copy.
I have done this dozens of times on my two bikes over the last 5 or 6 years and have NEVER had a problem. I am an IT guy so I have years of experience upgrading firmware on a myriad of devices. In all my years of experience I have not had an upgrade fail to the point in bricked a device.
There is a time delay between attempts if I recall. You have to wait like 1 full minute but I forgot the length. Try it again turn bike off for several minutes then turn to acc and then plug in usb

Thank you for your response. I waited hours between attempts to no avail. However, there is good news!
I tried a third USB drive and it worked. I received the same error that I mentioned above. I put the bike in Accessories mode and plugged in the third USB stick and it prompted me to install the system update. It worked completely normally this time and completed the update successfully.
This is a very old USB 1.0 stick that I had buried in a drawer somewhere. The only difference between this drive and the others I used is that this was a USB 1.0 drive and was only 6 GB in capacity. The other drives that I attempted to use are USB 3.0 drives.
I guess the lesson is that despite the BoomBox GTS being as advanced as it is, it doesn't like USB 3.0 drives. I was on the verge of taking it to the dealer and see if they could do a reset using Harley's Digital Technician.
I hope this post helps others who may encounter this issue.

When I did mine I used an old POS drive too and it worked flawlessly.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.
I know this is an old post, but I had the same problem yesterday. I added a car play module to my 2019 FLHTK. It would only recognize an iPhone, but I have an android. I searched for a solution and that was to update the GTS Boom Box. I went to the HD site, scrolled down to the bottom of the page and under "Services" I found "Software updates." I followed the prompts and downloaded the zip file. I opened the zip file and saved the software update to a new, large memory thumb drive. I then plugged the thumb drive into the bike's USB, turned it on to the accessory. The screen said "No playable media found" or words to that effect. I waited and then got the prompt for the update. I clicked on "Install" and it started. There were seven packages to be loaded. On the second package, I got an error message saying that the download had been interrupted. It said to unplug the thumb drive and try again and click "Retry." The same thing happened on two additional attempts. I then unplugged the drive and turned the bike off. I turned it back on and the screen was not coming on. I plugged the drive back in and it started the whole download thing over again with the same results. I went back to my PC, deleted the zip file, I got an old and much smaller memory USB memory stick, re-downloaded the HD update to it and then went back to the bike with this old memory stick which was much slower than the one I previously used. I started the retry download to the bike and now it had six packages instead of seven to download. I think on the first try when it failed it successfully downloaded the first of seven packages and that's why there were only six. It took a while to finish the download. When it finished, I got a message saying that the radio and the USB had the same version and do I want to reinstall. I opted for "No" because I had no idea what it meant and I was tired of messing with it. I then unplugged the memory stick and plugged in my android and it worked! I could see my phone's navigation. I could call out, etc. So, I think the lesson from this is that the HD USB is not compatible with the newer, higher speed thumb drives. Hopefully, this will help others trying to do what I was doing.
