Traffic on the Boom GTS navigation without satellite module?
Does anyone know if the Sirius XM module is required to unlock the traffic/construction/closed road details on the navigation map? The manual says it works via both Sirius and RDS, (and I definetly have it broadcast via RDS in my area) and you can turn it on or off, but when I go to the menu to do it, it does not exist on my radio. See attached shot from manual.
if you look on page 68 of the manual, it shows traffic to be part of the xm subscription add ons, so i think you're gonna need that module for it to work. though if you find out otherwise, that would be great. i wouldn't mind having it either.
Yes, I can use CarPlay to get the info, that's not the point. There are times when I prefer to use the onboard nav (so I can see my speed and temp, or whatever on the screen, and use the trip/mileage calculators) I'm assuming the XM module adds some software to change the menu options. I wonder if one just had the software portion on the head unit if the RDS traffic part would work...?
Can't you just use Carplay to show your favorite map app and have traffic?
Carplay only works with Apple iPhones, if you don't have iPhone you're hosed. It would be cheaper to buy the XM module than a new iPhone, at least for the first couple of years (unless of course you're fortunate enough to be a "money is no object" person. Just saying,

Most people have a smart phone. Doesn't the GTS also do "Android play" or whatever it's called?
Unfortunately, the GTS is only set up for Apple Play and not Android Auto.
I use the Sirius Traffic on mine and it works well. Have some issues with it automatically rerouting but it does a good job of alerting of heavy traffic and delays. It has helped me out several times.
