For the Road Glide you can get a Madstad windshield. The looks are not for everyone but they can be adjusted up and down around 3". So down all the way when its nice and raise it up when it is cold, raining or if you dont want allot of wind. I love the adjustability.
I have a '11 RK with Clearview -2" with recurve that performs as well as original and I can see over comfortably. Along with the (admittedly hideous) fork fangs wind deflectors and "tray" under triple tree felt like I could light up a smoke going down the highway, though when I installed fangs was the first time I noticed engine heat and pulled the tray for a little more airflow--didn't make much difference to me. Anyway, I can't give an informed opinion 'cause never been on a RG(!?) but I'm very pleased with the performance of the combination I have on a RK and fangs don't look too bad once you get used to them. If I want tunes I use earbuds w/small clip along the wiring that keeps from flapping around. Incidentally, I opted for clear windshield instead of grey/smoke options--to me clear is less obtrusive aesthetically and I don't feel the need to remove it when cruising around town for the look, though prev all black bike looks pretty sharp with small black shield.
I was in a similar situation when it was time to upgrade my 06 Street Glide. I loved the look of the Road King. I knew I would ride with windshield probably 80% of my miles, but didnt like the stock windshield. I also didnt want to give up the music. I ended up going with the Windsplitter Windshield, which I think is much better looking than stock and I still have the ability to remove for a stripped down look. Freedom Windshields makes a CVO model that is similar but doesnt have the vent and comes in a variety of sizes. I also added amp, Bluetooth controller, lower fairing with speakers and speakers lids.
Your bike is setup damn near exactly what I'd be after in a King. How tall are you and how do you feel about that windshield? Too much vacuum behind the shield or does that vent really help even things out?
Honestly your bike may have made my mind up, super sharp!

The air is smooth as long as I have the vent properly adjusted. To set it, I found an open stretch of highway, set the cruise at 80 and made very small adjustments to the vent until I found the cleanest air flow. I am 5-6, and to my understanding the windsplitter is good if you are under 6-0. I also have a slightly taller Freedom CVO windshield which blockes more air, but I decided I like the windsplitter look a little better
Thanks for the reply, I definitely have some things to chew on over the summer and think about on my rides. I think I have my Iron Butt ride planned from central Iowa, over to the Mississippi, and up the Great River Road to Red Wing and then over to the west side by Mankato back down to Iowa. If you want to roll along for part of it let me know and I can PM you.
Thanks again all, I truly do appreciate the replies and am not opposed to even more.
Do some test rides first, you can't go wrong putting a recurved windshield on so you can just see over the top of.
Do you plan on have a passenger ride with you, they want comfort too that is something to think of also.
Good Luck on buying your new Bike.

Hey John, my wife rides probably 50% of the time which is why I set myWG up the way I did. I figured any touring bike setup similar will be better for her, let alone a removable trunk etc... for her and a few different seats to choose from.
