Given the ease of locking the rear tire in an emergency, and the dreaded high-side crash that releasing the locked rear tire causes, ABS would be a substantial safety feature for those of us who are not LEO's or otherwise spend a lot of time in training exercises on our touring bikes.
OOps! Wrong link, and I haven't located the correct one. There was a post on a week or two ago that linked to a page that has the features of the new bikes, and which ones will not be produced.
try this link. Says that it's a $795 option. 08 changes new options, flhx
I think I misunderstood what you wanted. I thought you were questioning if it was an option, but I now assume you know it is.[:@]
The abs is one of the things the beemer riders seem to think puts them up on other bikes, that I do know.
ABS really belongs on a motorcycle more than all the extra chrome one could carry out the door. It's the one accessory which could mean the difference between life or death in a panic stop. Your wheels will no longer lock up in a panic stop and you'll be able to control your bike right up until it comes to a stop. Saw a video of a BMW LT a couple of years ago of a rider going 60 mph into wet grass and successfully stopped by grabbing the brakes with full force - he came to a very nice straight line stop.
I guess this is a question for people that ride bmw or gold wings, my bad.
I know what it can do I just don't trust the stealership and HD on new stuff.
I have to walk the line of saftey or the junk that just came on a new model bike and trust me I know how to ride a bike.
Been going it for 27 years.
I would like to here every ones input on this is.
Thank you

The cops I've talked to who ride the ABS-equipped bikes all swear by the technology. The cop bikes had a large ABS unit mounted between one saddlebag (right, I think) and the rear wheel. It was so big that a big section of the saddlebag needed to be cut out, which made about 1/3 of its space unusable. The '08 version is modular and does not infringe on saddlebag volume, I was told by our local dealer owner who has seen and been briefed on them. He mentioned that at the recent dealer convention he saw a demo of a bike at highway speeds riding on the gravel shoulder in a curve and the brakes were applied hard. The bike stopped without incident.
If I was buying an '08, I would insist on the ABS option, and $800 is not expensive compared to competitors.
Do any of the aftermarket groups offer ABS as a bolt on add on? theres 4 piston and 6 piston, how do they match up to ABS? Do you lock up sooner? Just wondering.
Pete

Holy crap, on gravel and in a curve at highway speeds... That's not ABS, it a friggin force field...
I have posted this before, but I guess ya'll have not seen it. Go to www.americanrider.com . Where it says click here for this weeks inside powersport, there is an orange box below it, click the down arrow, and select week of July 9, then hit play. At the begining of the video it shows the ABS working on a '08 Ultra. The later half of the video deals with the CVO models. Worth checking out, IMO. ABS should be on all motorcycles. Sure wish I had it on my '05 rk custom.[:@]
