Default Locking detachable latch set 90300087

Most of the time, I can perform a search on this site and my questions have been discussed in detail so I do not post. In this case, I see where the topic was broached half way.

I purchased the "Locking Detachable latch kit 90300087" for my Tour-Pak on my Roadking Classic. I was surprised that the two latches were identical. So as discussed in other posts, you only use one per application. No big deal since I can put the other on the removable backrest. Unfortunately, I now have a chrome latch on one side and a black on the other. So the solution is to order chrome latches for the other side. Looking at the Harley options, 12600036 is the chrome set. However, there is a right and a left side in this kit. So am I stuck ordering two of these kits so I have chrome all around?

You are the only one to know or notice the difference. I wouldn't lose any sleep and run it mismatched.

How's that? If I'm reading the OP's post correctly, the other posts say you use only one. Harley says the same thing.
NOTE:
Use one latch per accessory installation. A second latch is included for an additional accessory.

I don't see the disconnect.

To the OP, why don't you just get the black locks to match what you have? P/N 90300086

I prefer chrome. I do not like the looks of black parts on the bike.

From the responses thus far, no one is seeing the point. The locking latch comes as two identical latches. The non locking comes as a left and a right. Why doesn't Harley supply the locking latch in left and right for a single installation or for two installations by pairing it with a single non-locking hardware kit? To do two installations in chrome, you need to buy two non-locking kits and one locking kit. Is this correct or not? The instruction sheet only talks about installing one side as "only one side is needed." This is the description on the HD site:

HD never states anywhere the kit is for two separate attachments. The only place the information appears in the reviews of the product and some give the latches a low mark due to the design.

why don't you just buy the one kit with the chrome latches and try it and see if it works. looking at the picture of it, it appears that there is an 'offset' machined into the latch. if you put it on backwards, the offset would be facing the fender. is it going to matter? that's where you actually putting it on and trying it.

I did buy the set and that is how I found out that the kit contains two identical latches. Due to the recess in the bolt hole, it will only fit one side of the accessory.

I used both locking latches on my tour pack and just installed them so that they rotate to latch in opposite directions.

Thank you. You are the first to understand the situation versus just giving opinions. I did not try the reverse rotation. How is the key access?
