And it is the best stand out there

I always leave mine in 1st when I park it too. Just pull back on the bike a little to make sure the stand is fully forward.

I have a habit of stopping the bike, deploying the jiffy stand and let spring forward, rest it on the jiffy stand and tug the bike back a little to ensure it's locked in the notch. It's a shame dealerships can't/won't build up something to show the new (1st time) owner how this works and how secure it is. It wouldn't take much.

My sales guy actually drug the bike forward across the floor on the jiffy stand. First time I had seen this and I was surprised.

I sympathize with you on this. It is a little un-nerving as a new to Harley rider.

I remember sitting at the gas station holding it in place because I thought it would roll off the stand.

I to Googled and looked into making it better, but then realized it was OK and could be trusted. I did have to get on my knees and look up under the floor board to see that it was locked in place. I would encourage you to do the same to make yourself feel better about it.

You are not alone with this. Both me and my wife were freaked out by the stand after getting our first HD’s. You will get used to it, and it won’t be a second thought after a while.

I'm going to guess you're coming from Japanese cruiser bikes? Where the kickstand extends way forward. Coming to a Harley it sure doesn't look right. But, as mentioned by many above, there is a very positive locking mechanism with the Harley stand that does in fact hold it in place superbly.

As mentioned above, look at it, make sure the parts are securely bolted together, and allow yourself to feel more comfortable with how it works.

Lubrication is often neglected, but does help the stand extend and retract nicely.

It’s a proven design that works very well. Once you get used to it, you won’t even think about it. If my wife is riding with me she prefers to mount the bike and sit down before I get on. If the jiffy stand is deployed and the weight of the bike has the tab in the slot, it’s not going down.
