Wheel spacer moves freely
To say the least I am pissed at this shop. First off, as written above during the initial install they did not install the bearings fully and the spacer had enough play to move around on their own. To add to that, after this post was made I discovered that they installed the ABS bearings f*&k&*g backwards. As in orange side out.
So I had them fix their mistake. Or so I thought. I had marked the bearings to ensure they didnt try to reuse the same bearings after pulling them out. They did not which is about the only thing they have done right so far. I got the wheels back the next day. A week or so goes by before I can install them.
Fast fwd to install day. Rear wheel has gone on seemingly without any issue. Front wheel however not as lucky. I followed the service manual and installed the front wheel. In the process of torquing the axle nut to 65ft lbs the plastic cover on the ABS sensor cracked and the wheel will not spin. At all.
As I am creating my own curse words I remove everything. Once removed I see that the ABS bearing is considerably deeper inside the wheel than the one on the wheel that came off the bike. (remember I was doing a wheel swap. Same exact style wheel) I probably should have noticed this myself but in my haste I failed to check everything thoroughly.
I call the shop back and make them come pick up my bike. Told them to make it right. At this point I dont even want them touching the bike but I also dont want to spend a penny more for their F up. I called them today to get an update. The guy told me they are waiting on new bearings to arrive today and should have it done later. I asked what the issue was. Something about different bearing thicknesses so they are putting in the thicker bearing this time which will take care of the issue where the bearing was too far into the wheel. They also said they are replacing the sensor.
Is that a thing? Are there different ABS bearing thicknesses that are the right width for these OEM wheels? Why would the rear wheel not have the same issue unless they had one proper bearing and one "thin" one?
) combo ABS Sensor/Spacer.The only way they could install the ABS "deeper" is by installing it first (which is correct), but on the Wrong side (right side).
.
I said bulls--t ! That bearing should be installed to where there is no play between it's inner race and that spacer. There is a certain way they are be installed, Get the service manual and the right tool to do this job and don't trust these nitwits to take YOUR life into their hands.
I laughed in his face!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
