There are two conditions in which we are likely to need to refill. One is when riding roads we are familiar with and probably know where there are filling stations, in which case we can often ride beyond the light coming on, confident of reaching the next refuelling opportunity. I routinely did that while commuting by bike, over several decades. I reckon we should all be able to do that! The other is when riding unknown roads and especially when on a longer ride, when we should IMHO plan to stop not long after half a tank left.
Agree... On long rides keep it topped of whenever possible. Don’t want to get stuck pushing the bike into Madrid with the Del Fuego’s on my tail.

I just bought a '17 CVO Limited with stage 1 (S/E Ventilator and Rinehart true duals) and tune (supposedly). I've put about 300 miles on it since buying it 2 weeks ago, and i've already put a full tank in it, on top of the full tank the stealership gave me. It's probably just me getting used to the bagger and the 114" M8. My last HD was an '03 FXDI (Dyna low, no bags or windshield) with full stage 1 and it would get 40-42 mpg if I wasn't riding the crap out of it. I will say this bike feels like it weighs twice what that one did....
