My organizer "glue" is turning loose after too many years in the heat. Any ideas on what would be best to clean off the 2-sided tape inside the lid so I can re-do it?
A heat gun would be great but I don't think the fiberglass/paint would take much of that. So what's the preferred method? Acetone, denatured alcohol? (and lots of scraping and patience I'm sure)
Scrape the big chunks off then use desolve-it or goo gone. Both work well but I prefer desolve-it as it typically works faster and cleans up easier. Should be easy in a tour pak. Spray on, let sit for a minute or 2 and wipe down. If not coming off at first spray more and wait longer. Remove any traces of both with a paper towel and alcohol.
Definitely no heat gun. Maybe a hair dryer to loosen the big chunks, but no heat gun.

The 2-sided tape I mentioned is whatever the organizer came with, so thanks for calming me down to using something less volatile. I figure parked in the summer sun should be adequate heat and a plastic razor blade will be good.
Would thin, 2-sided auto trim tape be what I should use when I put it back?
I've used a heat gun on the saddlebag lid organizer adhesive with no ill effects. I used 3m double sided mounting tape afterwards and never a problem in 6 years. I used the same tape to mount a surge protector on the garage wall where stuff is constantly plug in and unplugged. It hasn't moved in three years!
I got some Gorilla Glue brand double sided tape. That stuff will NOT let go. Maybe the adhesive will fail on the surface of the sun...LOL
Personally I would get some of the heavy weight velcro that is rated for outdoor use. I've used it in my saddlebags with success. It doesn't melt off so easy in the heat, & it'll hold just fine. Multiple squares should do the trick.
I have some 3M premium 2-sided tape I was going to use. But I remember a truck I cleaned up once that had some kind of super duty velcro on the windshield. The nylon hook part seemed twice the size of the hooks of normal velcro and it took a razor blade just to cut thru the glue. I think it would have held a 25" tube type television. Lol.
Thanks for all the ideas. I have a feeling that the main thing is to get the lid itself perfectly clean of the previous tape, for a good bond of whatever I go with.
I’ve got the luggage rack on top of mine, so I got some longer bolts with washers, drilled holes in the organizer to match the luggage rack, inserted new bolts & washers, and tightened.
