I was quoted a 4-year plan for just over 1K from a site mentioned on this forum - discount ESP. After a few questions, I found out that it's really just a 2-year plan. Its factory 2 years plus the 2 years from the ESP. Kind of deceptive if you ask me. Have others been quoted similarly? I just emailed Jim Plamer from another recommendation, hopefully, 5 years is actually a 5 years.

Jim is a great guy, he will treat you good. You will look long and hard to find a negative review on him.

if your bike is a 'new' bike, as in your the first owner, and it is still under factory warranty, then what you've experienced is normal. there is coverage in the esp that runs concurrent (and separate from) with the factory warranty. if your factory warranty has expired, then your bike would be considered 'used' and you would get the stated time. however, you would also have to get your bike inspected, and there would be a grace period before you would have a claim covered. unless something's changed, been a while since i looked at esp's.

when I bought mine on my new bike I was told if the factory warranty did not cover it the ESP would if it is a covered item. So when I asked if Harley denied warranty because of aftermarket parts etc then the extended warranty would cover the repair minus the aftermarket parts. Call Jim he is very helpful

I know the "terms" can be little confusing on some plans. The "NEW TERMS" mean the bike is currently covered under the original factory warranty and the "USED TERMS" are if it is expired. That is why, on some plans, you only see 3 - 7 years for options vs 1-5 years.

I like to describe the plans in "additional year terms". So if I quote a 6-Additional year plan with Compass Platinum--you'd see 96 months of coverage on a H-D contract. (8 total years)

Guys, here's what I know. I purchased an ESP from Jim Palmer solely for peace of mind. Rates were fine for bike and tire and wheel coverage. As things go, I sold the bike after a year.....somebody made me an offer I couldn't refuse on a trade-in. I contacted Jim about cancelling the ESP and he couldn't have been more informative and courteous than I could have asked....from an insurance guy that was having one of his policies cancelled. He's followed up on the refund status and has done what he said he was going to do. If this is in any way indicative of how a claim might be handled, I'd have no hesitation of using Jim for another ESP in the future. My current bike came with dealer provided extended warranties, so I didn't need one from Jim. Overall, two thumbs up! And no, I was not paid for this positive review......I b!tch too much about bad things, so I try to say good stuff about good things to even it out

Thank you for the post! The warranty coverage plans we sell allow clients to cancel for a refund, transfer to the new owner, and on some contracts--transfer to the new bike. Let me know when you get back on 2-wheels! Happy New Year!

Curious, because I don’t know, are these plans accepted by most dealers? Obviously I know it can be different from store to store, and I’m only asking this informationally. I’ve got a new bike with an ESP from HD, but when the time comes, I’d be interested.

👉 I've been selling these types of plans since 2008 and on less than 5 occasions, I've encountered dealerships that don't work with other ESP administrators. This "stance" is normally a sales tactic to get the inflated price of the H-D (CNA) plan. Also the "stance" the Sales Department takes is NOT the same of the Service Department. The Service Department just wants to help the rider get back on the road and are willing to call other administrators.
👉 Worst case though--if the dealership won't help, all the companies I work with, allow the client to process their own claim. This removes the issues the dealership might put up.
