i have a 2000 ultra classic.here recently my speedo would drop to 0 and then back up to speed.no other issues with other gauges at all.i took it to the harley dealer and they couldnt replicate issue.spent 5 hours and couldbnt get it to do it again.i picked up bike and as soon as i left the service department and hit the highway it did it again. supposedly no DTC where present...anybody had this issue before and if so how did you fix it..im affraid we may get stranded somewhere.
thanks
Check and make sure it's plugged in n the back. I spent days chasing an intermittent and inaccurate fuel gauge. Turns out the plug was coming loose on the back of the gauge.
I worked as a service writer in the early 00's and saw this frequently. Speedo would flip out, then be normal, no way to predict it. As others here have said, small metal shavings would build up and get stuck on the sensor. Try changing your oil and cleaning the sensor.
then thats what I will do today. Directional work and cruise works,(until Speedo drops,) and then all is fine once Im back up.. thanks for the advise as Harley spent 5 hours and couldnt replicate my issue..
