The way I see it, there are a few options and I'm thinking about phasing in my lighting in these three steps:

1. Upgrade with a LED Signal Conversion (like the Custom Dynamics "PREMIUM PLUG & PLAY BULLET BEZEL LED TURN SIGNAL CONVERSION KIT"). I assume these front "run/turn" lights will toss out more light than the standard HD bulbs which will help on those dark streets at night.

2. Upgrade the stock HID headlight with a LED.

3. Upgrade by adding LED passing lamps / Auxiliary lights (if needed)

Is it overkill to upgrade all three? Maybe after upgrading turn signals and the headlight I won't need the passing/aux lamps (but I always like the look of passing lamps and had them on a prior bike). Thoughts?

I like the Custom Dynamics stuff from what I've seen on YouTube and the various postings here. However I know H-D, HogWorkz and Ciro3D both have options as well. All input welcome.

Oh yea - is there any issue running a mix of the LED upgraded run/turn/break lights along with the standard HID headlight, or do these need to happen at the same time?

TIA,
-PH
You should do all of the above.

I was in the same boat in June when I bought my ‘21 SG. I replaced the stock HID headlamp with the HD Daymaker adaptive. That was a huge improvement, both in the quality of light and the throw. I also upgraded the front and rear turn signals to the HD inserts with the white halo. They do not throw significantly more light, but they look good. Finally, I added a set of CD ProBEAM fog lamps to the engine guard. That made a huge difference in being able to see the side of the road and scanning for deer. They throw a lot of light.

I live in a fairly rural area with a lot of wildlife and I need to see at night. After all these updates, I’m in good shape.

Good advice in this thread so far. As others have said, upgrading your headlamp to an LED unit is going to make the biggest difference, with regards to how well you can see the road. I'd check out our ProBEAM headlamps for your bike.
https://www.customdynamics.com/amfin...e--flhx--34316

After that, you can do the LED turn signals, which will increase your visibility to other drivers, and add passing lamps if you want, which are short-throw lights that are similar in terms of projection distance to the headlamp low beam.

All of our various options for your bike can be found here: https://www.customdynamics.com/amfin...e--flhx--34316

Thanks for the info. Question: If I upgrade to the Custom Dynamics LED turn signals in the stock front turn bullets, will I be able to move the front CD LEDs into the HD Custom Auxiliary Lighting Kit Bullets (https://www.harley-davidson.com/us/e...it/p/67800367A) ? I just want to make sure they can be installed, and then moved without issue, otherwise I'll do those all at the same time.

Thanks,
-PH

@Parrothead1809 yes, our 1157 front signals will fit in your stock front bullet housings, and can be easily moved into the Auxiliary Lighting Kit Bullets when the time comes.

I have a 2014 Street Glide Special
The advice to call Custom Dynamics is good advice. I remember when I did mine that it said something about being not good to run LED and standard together BUT do not take that as anything more the hear say Call!

Here is what I am running: and yes this was NOT cheep (cost over $2000) BUT I love it, and would do it again!
Going up the middle in the day light 80 to 90% of the people see me before I get to them and move over for me now
In the past, 20 years or so on a metric with standard lighting it was less then 10% AND AT NIGHT "This thing is lit" Both coming and going!

So this is my list: (Most was from Custom Dynamics)
xmc-7RD - Vision X 7″ XMC Motorcycle LED Headlight

Custom Auxiliary Lighting Kit Part Number 67800367A & xmc-45RDHKIT - Vision X XMC 4.5″ LED Passing Lamp Halo

PB-RR-1157 PROBEAM® RED RING 1157 REAR LED INSERTS WITH RED LENSES
PB-AW-1157 ProBEAM® Amber/White Dynamic Ringz™ Front 1157 LED Bullet Inserts with Smoked Lenses

PB-TRI-3 ProBEAM® Dual Intensity LED TriBAR for 2014-2020 Street Glide®, Road Glide® & Road King® Special

Saddlebag LED Latch Lightz™ for 14-20 H-D™ Touring

MAGIC-STROBES-RSG MAGIC STROBES™ RSG BRAKE LIGHT FLASHER FOR 14-20 H-D™ TOURING

CD-LPSEQ-BCM TSD Sequential Low Profile BAGZ™ Saddlebag Lights for 14-20 H-D™ Touring Models

PB-MINITL-BCM ProBEAM® Mini Add-On Taillight for 2014-2020 Street Glide, Road Glide & Road King Special

In general our warranty department will keep older products on hand for quite a while. Our lifetime LED warranty applies to discontinued products as well. If there's any issue with your lights, please give us a call at 800-382-1388.

Example of what I’m talking about.
I bought a set of your mega Spotz this year for custom application.Paid close to $400
Cut holes in my body panel for custom lights.
So when one goes bad I’m left with holes in my body.
I tried to buy another set and was told you don’t sell them any more.
Wasnt a clearance item when I bought them if I would of known I would have
went another direction.
Another example are the lights I have custom fitted to my bag extensions.
You know longer carry those anymore.
So left with more holes if they go bad.
A heads up to customers on items
That you are going to discontinue in the future would be nice.
Everything Polaris was still advertising them for sale so I emailed them to make sure they are in stock after I talked to you guys, They got back to me and said they just found out they are discontinued.
They didn’t even know.
I guess what I’m trying to say is which ever lights you guys decide to get and what application you are using them for make sure you buy extra.

Resurrecting this thread. Anyone have feedback on the HD "Signature" vs "Projector" vs CD "Pro Beam" headlights? I just spoke to the folks at CD and they said that the Pro beam headlamps do not have halo's - but are the better lamp compared to their "Headlamp with Halo". Personally, I'm not leaning towards, or away from the halo - I just want the best lighting for the $. That said, I don't want to go cheap for something I'll hate in a year. I can't find any data comparing the two different HD lights - but there is a cost difference.

Once I narrow down the primary headlight, I'll probably get the matching Aux lights, unless there is a real compelling reason to mix & match.

Thanks,
-PH
