I have a 98’ rkc and changed the head temp sensor by raising the fuel tank with a block of wood to hold it up. I don’t care what anyone says, at about every 30k the bike will start running as you’ve described. Trust me change that sensor I found this out on another forum after changing tps sensor, crank position sensor, fuel filter, and fuel pump sending unit, basically wasted some money. I did the job myself, take your time, but you are definitely on the correct track. Try that before anything else, don’t mess with tps settings it’s a real pain trying to reset to factory settings OR as in my case different settings due to bigger fuel injectors, screaming eagle kit, a dyno, a different cam, and true duals. As in the forum I read, trust me, change that damn sensor and you will have a sweet running bike again IF you didn’t mess with any idle settings.
