I went to my local dealership and checked out the new 22s. They had a 22 Ultra Limited there in gunmetal grey that they were asking just over $32k for. I decided I'd just keep my 2017 and do the upgrades that I wanted to do.

A local dealer has two used Road Glide Limited 2020 models priced higher than I paid OTD for my 2021 new.

I bought my 2017 in 2021, that's within the 5 year window. It could have something to do with my timing when it comes to buying bikes too. Always at the end of riding season, end of Sept or Oct, just before winter hits. Yeah, I only get to enjoy the bike for a few weeks, but I've always negotiated a better price than asking. Maybe things are different around here, I don't know? They're smaller dealerships 50 miles or more from the closest large city. Or maybe it's because I typically buy used & there's more wiggle room on the price? Maybe a combination of them all?

When the 2017.5 Road King Special came out all the dealerships around me wanted $25k and wouldn't budge. MSRP was $21,999 vivid black. I walked and decided to wait. Went back the first week of September when the 2018s started rolling in and got a 2018 for $22,600 OTD!! So your definitely right!!

I tell people all the time have patience. You'll eventually get the deal you want. Even now in the current environment. These bikes aren't one off collector's items. There will be more. You don't have to jump on the first batch that comes in to the dealerships.

Right now is when all the gotta have the latest and greatest crowd shop. Once they all buy things start to slow down at the dealerships. Let them all pay the high prices. You wait.

Here's the thing - for everyone here that owns a bike you should be happy because its worth a lot more. If you are in the market for a new bike, well you're gonna have to pay up. HD is back to the early 2000s model of taking deposits and making customers wait. They aren't worried about mass production and want to make sure that manufacturing lags behind demand to create more demand. This model will keep prices higher for the foreseeable future. It is what it is - HD has always been a premium brand compared to the Japanese bikes but when you look at other "premium" bikes manufacturers you'll see HD isn't as out of line on pricing as people say. Everyone always complains about HD but as a wise man once said "when i was a kid i didnt dream about riding a honda goldwing". They hate us 'cause they ain't us!

Nah.. You just have to shop around and find a good dealer that still sells at MSRP. Just spoke to one on the phone. They said NO sur charges. So I know where I'm going when im ready. You "pay up" all you want.
