I hope this doesn’t sound like a dumb question. I just saw a picture of an apparently recent Road King (had the 107 A/C cover) with leather RKC bags. Are they interchangeable? Tried to look it up on HDF but no luck…

Yes, the RKC bags will mount right up in place of the hard bags.

In other markets the RKC was still available until a few years ago (discontinued here in 2013).

Some online H-D dealers still have them here. You can also find used ones from fleabay.

They are interchangeable as I replaced my leather bags with hard bags, if you do go that route, remember they do not lock.

You are right. They do not come with locks from HD, however, their are aftermarket locks that replace the chrome wing. I looked into buying a set for my 2005 RKC about 6 years ago but cannot remember the brand. They work great to lock the leather bags.

When the Road King Classic was marketed in North America, they offered a lock for the leather bags as an accessory. It is kind of goofy how it works but it deters the casual thief.

Yes and the one I found was the chrome wing that flipped up to expose the lock. If not mistaken, I don't think that was the HD lock but it's been a long time since I saw it.

The HD locks on my RKC use a cable system that locates the barrel lock behind the rear of the bag. The pull cable runs inside the bag around the outer edge to the front where you install a long reinforcement bar and latch. It adds stiffness to the entire outer edge.
