Default 2008 Engine to Frame Linkage

I was at Gator HD in Leesburg checking out the new Street Glides and noticed HD added an adjustable linkage from the front cylinder head to the frame on the new touring bikes. The salesman said it's supposed to aid in reducing vibration on the non-counterbalanced engines. He also said that you can't remove it. What's up with that???

From what I have been told that mount change is due to the 6 gallon tank. There is no room for the mount under the tank as in earlier years. Did not know that it had anything to do with reducuing vibration but it could?

That front mount is nothing new, HD has been using that for years. Moe55 is correct, with the size of the new 6 gallon tank, HD had to relocate that to the front jug. Before it was always mounted under the tank between the two jugs. This mount is used on all rubber mounted engines (non-counterbalanced). Note, your sales person is correct when in saying you can't remove it. If you do, hold on for your life! You're going to vibrate and the engine/primary/tranny will move around wearing out your front and rear mounts quicker.

OK, so it's just a relocated engine mount. If he had said that, I would have gotten it in the first place! I was under the impression that the top mount was still there and this "linkage" was something they just added to reduce further vibration. Now I get it.

Thanks for the help guys!

Just a thought.....................Maybe since the linkage is further foward on the bike, hencecloser to the fairing center, it will reduce the vibration enough that the fairing support brackets will no longer break.
Yea.......OK. No, I'mNOT really that naive (stupid). Wishful thinking though huh !?!?!?

So what? New year models bring changes, mostly in the interest of improvements. It happens.

Is it really a pre-requisite to reverse-engineer every damned thing about the new year models? Why?

Either that or any vibration transmitted by it will shake the brackets even more authoritatively, hahaha!

Racklefratz,

Yes, it is important. Most people will agree that a lot of the appeal to the touring line is the vibration at idle while it's smooth as glass on the highway. If the new mount reduces that much vibration, it won't have as much of that shake we all love. Even non-Harley people associate that shake with HD and to change that would be like changing the HD logo! I can understand if they had to make the change to get the new fuel tank on there but to make a change just for the sake of trying something else, well, that would be just stupid when what you already have works so well.

Plus, HD makes bikes for those people who don't like the vibration at idle... they're called SOFTAILS.
