Asking questions is not whining or ranting about a product.
Thanks for the heads up, I always appreciate when someone shares this kind of info.

UPDATE!!!

Old thread, I know, but I used it for current research on the oil change for my 2022 Heritage. I searched far and wide for an aftermarket filter option that's at least 4" long with a 5 micron filtration to meet the spec for the M8. I couldn't find one, so I went to HD Wesley Chapel to pick one up (and put eyes on the Pan America ST).

Here's the new one:

Looks to be made by Mahle, and you can clearly see a circular perforation in the inner shell.

Now the one I removed... I'm sure it was from the 600 mile service my dad got, which I'm guessing was sometime in 2022 or early 2023:

Back to those narrow perforations like the OP of this thread created awareness of.

Looks like Harley took notice and farmed the work out to a better manufacturer.

Since there was an update, I thought I'd share what the inside of the HD oil filter for my Pan Am RevMax looks like.
No more holes or louvers, instead it's a straight up plastic cage that looks super high flow.

I did the first oil change on my 24 FLHP and it had the old style/ Twin Cam filter on it from the factory.

How are you managing to cut it open and not get metal filings in the mix?

There was a stupid cross section oval shaped o ring that you had to hold in place while screwing in the canister. And yeah…once I got it pinched, and pumped out half the oil. After fixing that, and topping up the oil, I never had a problem with the motor.
I had an MG-B back in the early 80s, It was a piece of crap, but it was a fun car.
