Just another Harley sucks post...or 'my sisters boyfriend's cousin knows a guy who rides with an engineer for Harley and he says'... wonder why I read these forums some days...hard to not want to comment on the stupid.
I hear ya. My internet was down for a few days due to a fried router from a lightning strike. I didn't miss the internet, yet here I am, back reading stupid ****.
Theres nothing wrong with louvers on oil filters if they are formed correctly. Check out the link below on bobistheoilguy about louvers on an Amsoil filter. Good pics and discussion about it.
Heard of many issues with HD oil filters lately. Holes too small might restrict flow. Bad pleats. I always used Fram but it's a bit difficult to remove in my '14 SG, getting a filter wrench on it is a bit challenging.. I just tried K&N. Mainly because of the "nut" on the end. Makes it a lot easier to install and remove.
After reading through the bobistheoilguy thread I decided to check my brand-new HD oil filter.
Well guys, I'm going to stay the hell away from HD oil filters for quite some time.
This is wholly unacceptable for something that costs as much & is billed as a "premium filter". I'll be calling the dealer & returning it.
I guess I'm doing my oil change today (my Road King currently has an HD filter) & I'll be checking the filter that is currently on my Road King when I take it off too.
Who knows when this idiocy started.

This is exactly what i am talking about. This looks like it could certainly restrict the flow.
Do you really think HD would make oil filters that could possibly cause a problem ? , I'm guessing no,. Lot of warranty issues would cost them a possible fortune, I'm sure they are engineered properly, with more than sufficient flow,. Just my opinion, but I can't see them skimping on the oil filters
Instead of complaining about it on a forum, why don`t you send a note and pics to the MOCO and tell them about the issue?
We can`t fix the issue, but they certainly can..
I am not complaining ! i was investigating the issues and maybe problems with the new designed filters i saw with a new filter i bought. I hope this thread has opened a couple of eyes to what HD has done with them. You can make your own choices with this information. I will be using s different brand of filter for my next oil change. I will voice my option to HD next week. Not that they will do a damn thing as long as they are making more money on these new filters.
Some of you guys should really go read the bobistheoilguy link I posted. It was stated on post #20 that after Amsoil was contacted they were very concerned and wanted the filters back. So no, louvers that are partially closed is not normal/acceptable.
