HD going cheap on everything. And charging more at the same time.
Plenty of good filters at a better price.
How exactly do you know they are going cheap on this oil filter?
From the OP`s rant post we don`t even know what the part number is or what the filter is for.

Of course they'll lower quality a little to save a buck. Look at the last few years. Revenue is up yet bike sales are down.
Take inner cam bearings for example. Everyone knows the Torrington/Koyo bearing is superior to the Ina.
Yet for 18 years they used the Ina in the Twin Cam.
If the Torrington costs $1 more per bearing that's 2 bucks per bike.
Sell 200,000 bikes a year now we're up to $400,000. Now an 18 year run is $7 million, 2 hundred thousand.
And that's how a bean counter will trump an engineer.
So I'm sure if they could save 50 cents a filter they'd jump on it.
I just bought a new HD oil filter for my 17' Road King last week at Adventure HD in Dover, OH for $17.11.
Here's the pics, though I don't know exactly what he's talking about but here goes-
UPC
Not sure what these are, Cage codes, Part #'s, & build date?
Looks like they always do so far
The inside, are these the "slots" he's talking about?
I bought the 63798-99A for my twin cam bike and it is not like the older filters i used before. It has the slots in it like the above pic's of the M8 engines. I think HD has went with a different vendor for the filters. The filter just looks cheaper all around. All this had me wondering if the dealer had given me the wrong filter or the wrong filter in the twin cam box. This is the only thing i ever buy from the dealer . Same part number as the older filter i have, but the new filter is different. My reason for posting this is not a hate HD thing . My main concern is i want the correct filter on my engine !
Anyone have a new 63798-99A filter that they can look inside of ?
My mistake when i said the Purolator filter i had problem with was on a Ford , it was on a Pontiac Gran Prix, my mistake but the filter was junk.

Are you talking about the pic in post #26.....????? Those "slots" are circles... and have always been circles...
All the "-99A" filters look like that, both the black (#63731-99A) and chrome (63798-99A) versions... Except they are only 3.5" long, and you won't see that red dot deep down the center if you look into the filter...
I'm curious, what did your prior filters look like....? I guess I am misunderstanding what you mean by "slots" and "looks different".....
The holes i am talking about are down in the filter. I called the local dealer and he confirmed they have changed vendors and the new filter do indeed have the slots in them. He told me HD had a hard time getting filters and made a move to a different vendor to meet the demand. I guess this Covid crap even is effecting my oil changes now. At least i now know it's the right filter for my bike.
