I called H-D Customer Care, at first, they didn't seem all that concerned until I mentioned that OP in St Louis had the same problem that I in Ohio had. They wanted the filter back to swap it. I explained that I'd taken it back to Adventure H-D in Dover, OH already & that I'd done an oil change ahead of schedule yesterday because I was worried the current H-D filter on my bike could have the same problem. I mentioned the filters being shorter than they're supposed to be too (3.5" being sold as the "New" 4" model).
I told them I took pics & had all the code numbers that were on the box in them along with a pic of the bad louvers. They were interested & wanted to see them, so they emailed me asking for them. I emailed them the pics of the new filter with all the numbers & the interior view of the bad louvers/holes. I included a pic of the interior louvers/holes on my old (bought 3/13/22) H-D brand filter that I took off yesterday which turned out to be good.

I guess we'll see what happens now.
I did the same this morning. They sent me an E-mail. Told the gal the entire story along with pic's. They gave me a ref. number and now it's in their hands.
Want to hear something funny ? Took my oil filter back this morning and received a store credit which i blew on some brake fluid. Anyway the parts guy brought out another filter to compare my filter to and it was missing the rubber gasket. We both had a good laugh.

Maybe you could email them a link to this discussion as well as the one on bobistheoilguy. That way they would get lots of pics and info.
I have always used HD filters since 1978, Hattitude convinced me to change. Ordered a new filter online, it will be delivered
to my door, just a few bucks more than the HD filter and no quality control guessing - HiFloFiltro.

Well you hope there are no QC issues. If you clicked on the bobistheoilguy link, youll see that Amsoil filters are having issues too. Just make sure you check the center tube for any defects. Also I would be curious if HiFlo filters have a date code.

Oh snap! I did an Amsoil oil and filter change a few weeks ago. With such a reputable brand I never thought to check the internals for quality control....

Before this post I'd say most others didn't think much about it either. Def won't be the case going forward.
