If the engine cranks over but won't start, check the crank position sensor, this reads the notches in the flywheel and sends signals to ECM to initiate ignition and run modes.

Could also be the ignition module or simply a broken wire.

Always a good idea. But has never helped me on a carbed bike with electical problems just like this. Which for me were cpk and coil.
CAM sensors were also gone by 2006. I think midyear 2001, for fuel injection. or they went away with M&M.

Did the bike run fine at some point, or did somebody work on the bike and this event started. We need more info to help you out.
