Battery
Hmmm you guys have me considering the Big Crank battery. Have been pleased with my Duracell Ultra but they're $200 now. Starting up this morning it was a good one second after pressing the starter before she did anything. After warm up it restarted fine but she's going on 4 years now, just a matter of time. Any chance of a black friday special? Or doesn't that happen with batteries?
Thanks for the recommendation. I just ordered Battery Mart's Platinum GYZ32HL AGM Maintenance Free Powersports Battery. It's 500 CCA, 32 Ah, 12 volt - which should get my 2015 Ultra Ltd started faster than the old (4+ years) 1st Gen Harley Lithium Ion battery I have now. https://www.batterymart.com/p-gyz32h...s-battery.html
Just my opinion, but if your bike has an amp, extra speakers, extra lights, etc, basically anything that increases the electrical load above the stock configuration, this is the battery to choose.
Having installed it a week or so ago, I can't comment on the service life, but the cranking power is much greater than my old HD Lithium battery.
Now my FLHTK starts up immediately, unlike previously. And I intend to keep this new battery on a battery tender on a daily basis - that's been my SOP for years.
Customer service from Battery Mart was quick and efficient (via email). Be sure to inquire if they have any discount codes available.
$179.49 shipped to my door - a pittance when compared to HD's Lithium battery.
Also, the battery is "MADE IN THE USA".

The Big crank is made by Deka and is the same as the stock HD battery except for one minor thing. You have to use a spacer washer on the terminals. It's how Deka got around selling the same battery to the public without it being a direct copy of HDs.
I have had four of the Deka Big Crank batteries and they have served me well. The last 2 only lasted 3 1/2 years , seems to be about all they last in touring bikes or softails. The last one i bought was 6 months when they sent it to me and needed some heavy charging before coming up to the correct voltage and amperage. The battery was not hot ! Kinda disappointed in Battery Mart after that. If i would had gone to their store and they handed me a battery that was 6 months old i would of handed it right back to them. That's the problem with anything mail order. It worked fine all summer and i will see how long it lasts.
My brother bought the same battery he has always bought for his Shovelhead from them and apparently they have change the post location and will no longer work. He had to return it and ended up going to HD for a new one that worked .
