2008 Ultra Test Ride
Went to my favorite delership today, "Barbs Harley Davidson" Camden County NJ Barb the beautiful lady that owns the dealership, had a party day with sale, music, an 08 demo rides. I Test Rode a 2008 Ultra wow a sweet bike, with lots of power, smooth shifting, and the bremo brakes man you could stop on a dime. The only thing I was amazed and shocked about the heat that the bike puts out. Almost burned my left leg on the pipe and primary!!!! Man now I know what you guys are talkin about the heat issues on the 08's I almost traded in my 05 Road King but I just couldn't come up with the funds and the heat issues changed my mind, I may just have to keep "My King" and do some mods and performance upgrades!. OK..The main reason the bike puts out so much heat can be explained in a couple of different ways....First and foremost.
The narrow band 02 sensors and ECM are the major factors. Next would be the heavy restrictions of the air filter and pipes.
I have an 07 FLHX and a 08FLHTCU. Both have been left stock. But today I changed the FLHX. I have put3400 miles on it while leaving it stock.
I installed the DTT with WEGO IID, Rinehart True Dual exhaust system and the S/C air filter kit.
I tuned the DTT idle control to achieve an AFRaround 13.3 to 14.2 with my BLM readings within 85 to 115 as the setup sheet suggested. I allowed the bike to perform some auto tune time today while out riding all over the place to get variable speeds and RPM`s.
What I have be able to learn from this will make all your heat and clatter along with driveability problems vanish.
This bike has a CORK stuck up it`s A$$. Uncork it and you will have no more problems.
The bike is very responsive. It will lug down low when up-shifting without any problems. I can run 60 MPH in 6th gear @ 2000 RPM and it`s fine. I can short shift it all I want.
Someone has posted about replacing the narrow band 02`s with wide band units without a controller...Not a good Idea. The ECM is not able to read a wide band 02, so you`ll be wasting money and hacking your bikes wire-harness for nothing. Don`t waste the time and money on a cheap way out.
This DTT and WEGO IID system is absolutely the best. I have no cams or internal engine mods, but when I`m ready this system will allow me to change to match it all. It will work on motors as big as 124 CI.
I see no other system that will come close to the capability this one has. My moneys in DTT.
I have the proof I need. Thanks for listening.....
