I found a tour pack off of a 2012 Firemans Edition Ultra Classic that a guy had taken off and then had a run in with a deer while it was off. The bike was totaled so I bought the tour pack. I've been known to paint occasionally and already had some clearcoat so I bought a pint of Vivid Black base coat and made it black. I found some plastic hole plugs that fit the holes where the speakers were and have since done the same for the antenna holes. That pint of base was $95 plus I bought a new seal for the lid and a harness to connect the lights so I'm probably close to $500 in everything now.

This larger version is exactly like the one I got with my HD King Pak and it was immediately obvious that the extra area, with little bolts to mount the lower outside side cover trim pieces, stiffens the entire assembly. For all I know, had I gotten this one, the issues I had with the XFMT's poor fit might have gone away. I note with interest that it now seems that the simple plate is vanishing in favor of the wide plate (which is a good thing).
This is not what I was thinking of for my "making a reinforcement plate".
Its not a bad Idea but,
#1 Won't fit my Hogworkx King pack, Its not flat on the bottom inside (hills and valleys in there you might say) and #2 would not work to stop the stress fracture I have in mine and I am sure many other have suffered.
That plate will work to reinforce the bottom of the pack for Anything "inside the pack" (as an example use as a ridiculous example a 50lbs lead weight) it would then be sitting on the plate and that plate is sitting on the mounting racks "small area" on the bottom outside the pack.
and the plastic would not be feeling the stress of that weight BUT
"This stress fracture" was, I am sure, cause by carrying long term (two week trips, my wife and I) with a Nelson - Rigg: NR-300 Turing trunk bag with anywhere from 10 to 15 lbs of long term traveling sundries and such on top of the touring pack on its rack.
The reinforcement I will be making is for the "outside bottom" so the whole King pack bottom is supported NOT just the 10 1/2" x 10 1/2" section that sits on mounting rack leaving nothing but plastic hanging out in the air.
"This reinforcement" (plate for lack of a better word) will spread it out across that entire bottom of the pack.
It will be made of 3/16" thick 5052 aluminum plate both bolted to and Welded to the the "DK Custom Tour-Pak Relocator" mounting hardware currently on the bottom of the pack and of curse it will be power coated gloss black so it looks stock assuming you are willing to bind over and look up at how the pack is mounted! which not many will do besides me that is!

In short NO, it will NOT truly bond to the plastic any more them paint would, NOT what its for, it protects the surface not reinforce its structure, at least that's my take!

I’ve got one from HD coming in for my Road Glide today. It’s two tone to match the bike which the aftermarket folks don’t produce.

My last one, which also had graphics on top to match the bike which is only available from HD.

sharp bike! Any more pics?

HD misses the mark on a lot. But they get somethings right.2014 and up Rushmore Tour pack is one they got right.

Blends with the bike. Looks smaller but holds a little more. IMO the razor is a joke. If you are going to do it do it right the first time.

Yeah I guess you are right. I was thinking it would add that additional layer of material on it, even if it's 2mm of material.

https://linex.com Lasts for as long as you will own it.

They sprayed a soda can (empty) and asked people to squeeze it, didn't happen.
Good stuff.

Because LINE-X Protective Coatings form permanent bonds at the molecular level, they have excellent adhesion to a wide variety of surfaces. Whether applied to metal, fiberglass, concrete, plastic, or wood, LINE-X can absorb impact and resist damage by remaining both flexible and strong, without losing adhesion.
