Ignition Switch Out of Alignment
I thought all was well and reinstalled correctly until I went to unlock my bike the other day and when I tried to get the key out of the ignition I pulled the ignition switch without using the release button on the bottom side as shown in the videos.
I rarely ride the bike and it has stayed on the lift in storage for the better part of 5 years so I didn't catch the issue until yesterday
It all works well, the lights come on with the ignition, the bike starts and the accessory function works but I cannot lock the handlebars.
I guess I screwed it up the last time I had it apart.
Oh well, tomorrow is another day to "play in the garage".
Hope I can get it adjusted properly without buying a tool from the dealer as some say is possible in the videos.
Wish me luck
Is there a difference between the '13 and '14 model years.
Now that I think about it I had not used the key to lock the ignition switch since the new bars were installed by the dealership at the 1,000 mile check up. I just used the key fob to lock the bags, tour pack and ignition (I assumed!).
I called my dealership today and was told that the ignition switch CANNOT be manually locked with the barrel key OR the remote key fob and that the bike security system automatically arms once the key fob is a short distance from the bike.
Turning the ignition switch or moving the bike without the fob nearby does set off the alarm system does NOT prevent the bike from being pushed away.....doesn't make sense to me! I need to do some research.
