I'm an old R&D tech, having done a lot of shake/vib testing, I appreciate the tech notes. Am presently riding a 12 yr old Evo all ridgid in a my own custom frame. After having to put up with heavy vibs at 60-70mph, haveswitch to 24T main drive sprocket. Can cruise now without hitting that resonant freq up to 80+. Kinda like a cruise conrol.I've owned 1 ea. Knuck, Pan, Shovel and Evo. They were all shakers and rattlers. The Evo makes as much mechanical noise as any Pan.The ol' lady got me to riding with a Full Face helmet on longer rides and it does wonder to cancel allthe high freqs leavingthe nice boom of the open pipes. Envy you your knuck, Have fun!

Daconiam, it's called an accellerometer and would consist of a hand held digital meter and a sensor you attach to the part to be tested. Usually found in a materials test lab or possibly at a local speed shop. Not cheap!

Hi DACONIAM ,A vibration meter is a small instrument that measures vibration in inches per second. It is used regularly in industrial plant maintenance to monitor the condition of bearings on shafts ,gearboxes, etc.The tip is simply pressed to the machine to be tested and it shows a digital reading of the vibes. The one I use is A VIB PEN model CMVP20 made by SKF bearings .Sells for about $600.It was a big asset to me when I visited H-D dealer. They and the MOCO could not argue with the meter mainly because it does not understand english; it comes from Japan. If you have a friend who works in an industrial plant ,he may help you borrow one.

Thanks for the info. I know folks that do vibe testing on electric motors, maybe they will have some sort of thing I can use.

47, It's been a few years, technology moves so fast it's hard to keep up. When I read your description of the latest vib meter it made me feel old. Don't knock the vibes, a 30 mi run on my ridgid does wonders for my P.A.D.[sm=smiley20.gif]

I agree with you DEJAVU, 45 degree v-twins will always shake, even Twincam B engines vibrate at certain rpms.Excessive vibration is hard on rider and machinery.
