So I just installed a Head Hoggers shifter bushing and a new chrome shift linkage rod on my 07 Electra Glide zero issues before. The new chrome shifter linkage is exactly the same length as the stocker was, however now I have an issue going from 3rd to 2nd gear. Seems to not want to get into second gear when downshifting and I have to stomp rather hard to get it into gear??
When it does this, the shifter lever seems to float or be very soft like its just missing the gear. Doesnt do it every time but like 40-50% of the time.
the overall length may be the same, but is the nut for the heim joints in a different spot? if so, the nut could be contacting the lever, creating just enough resistance to keep you from a full shift.
Until you verify the stock linkage doesnt replicate, theres no direction to point to. Like, the transmission is toast. All signs point to the linkage.
same here.. i replaced my shift shaft and put shifter right back in same spot... oem harley shaft... sometimes does not shift down to first... still trying to diagnose

This is most likely the cause.
Adjust the nuts on the shifting shaft evenly. Be careful not to start pulling into gear or out.
Not sure how this could be the cause?? The bushing creates a rock solid connection and is much smoother than the stock metal bushings that were both worn causing a good amount of slop. Im going to play around with the length of the shift linkage and the angle of the front shifter lever to see if I can alleviate the missed shift from 3-2

It keeps the shift arm from returning all the way from the previous downshift..If it don't com all the way back up, the shift claw won't grab the next pin on the drum. Go out for a ride and after a shift from 4th to 3rd, lift the lever ever so slightly then down shift.
