I have this, which I bought shortly after I purchased my Softail Slim S: Touring bag
I then got a crazy good deal on FB for this set shortly thereafter: Touring Set
Had a tall custom sissy bar, so I was able to travel using either depending on the length of the trip.
My wife travels with me 2up and now that I have a SGS, if I get a king tour pack, is it safe to assume I would only want to use the single touring bag in the first link? Im not sure if the tall bag in the set would be too tall to put on top of a tour pack luggage rack. If it would be too tall, safe to assume I could use it with the large sissy bar luggage rack?
Ultimately, Im trying to figure out whether it makes more sense to buck up for a tour pack or just get a luggage rack.

Thanks for your help!
If youre getting a king size tourpak, get a rack and a bag designed to fit on the tourpak.

I wouldn't pay the H-D tax for a bag,too many available at far less cost.
I can't remember where I got this one but probably Goodwill or a garage sale. lol
It zips shut and is waterproof,I try to only have lightweight stuff in there, the tour pack is heavy enough fully loaded and it's not designed for a whole lot more weight.
I keep all the heaviest stuff in the saddlebags to keep the weight down low as possible.
I have a few adjustable bungees and strap it on the luggage rack on my tour pack, the bungees over the top also come in handy for things like sweat shirts.
If it gets chilly I don't have to dig one out of the luggage,it's right there on top.
OP, I had that same luggage, then bought a tour pack, and didn't like either of them. I've been using the RickRak setup for a couple years now and really like it. Easy on and easy off. They also make oe for the top of the tour pack if you go that route.

I have this same set up, I love it and alot easier to put on and off and store.
I have the the smaller size H-D Day bag and use it as a daily "trunk" on my King. I also have a chopped TP I use for longer trips as I ride mostly solo. If I want storage for clothes, I use the TP and a large duffle style bag I put on the passenger seat. Sometimes I use the H-D day bag in combo with the duffle bag and the day bag fits a FF helmet and rain gear.
I've used just a rack and a bag and it's worked well for me, but with that I miss the ability to lock things up if I leave the bike to go eat or check out a shop. I've always ended up getting a tour pack for that reason.
Good luck.
