If you go with the system from 3Guyz they come with Parker AN fittings
And you wont need clamps, The hose will not come off once installed,
You will have to cut them off.
I think DK used to offer the upgraded fittings not
Sure anymore. I have ran jerryrigsytem for years.
Now under new name 3guyz since he passed.
I have also ran Dan Moores systems for years.
Never had a issue with them.
I make my own now with parts from
Improved racing and use an fittings.
3Guyz system mounts on down tube.
Now that's a good looking kit! Very finished and clean. I may have gone this route had I known about it.
I recommend you avoid braided steel covering on hoses.
As a jet engine mechanic for 45 years, I learned to hate the stuff, and once you get poked by a strand of stainless steel sticking out of the braid, you will too...
Braided stainless hose and electrical harness coverings have gone the way of the Dodo bird on modern jet engines and aircraft, and good riddance.
I have always thought oil hose, control cables and wires are something that should be as visually unobtrusive as possible, because the sure don`t add any good looks to a motorcycle.
Covering them with shiny stainless braid only calls attention to them.
Black hoses, black oil filter.
Agreed about the steel braided hose. It's a SOB to cut cleanly with no strands. Even using tape around the cut is little help. I got both DK kits installed with not much trouble since I too was a jet engine mechanic for 21 years. 😀 I really like the looks of the 3guys kit! Too late for me. Lol
So let me get some counsel from the hive. My latest ride is a 24 Police Road King that comes with fan assisted oil cooler. Im interested in the forward mounted filter relo kit that DK offers.
Ill be using standard HD disposable filters.
So opinions please.
Chrome or black? (Im thinking black.)
Braided oil line? or no.
Black hose finishers? or no, and if yes, how many 2 or 4? (I am honestly not sure what these even are).
Id like to have it as finished looking as possible, without being blingy, because this bike aint blingy, and not going to be. Its going to regain its police bike appearance. Black side covers, and black nacelle, as well as a black police style trunk/pak.
I found it extremely difficult to install the braided lines. The braiding didn't want to give enough for the hose to stretch, then the braiding unbraided
and the decorative covers wouldn't go on. So I left the braiding off.
You should go with the black kit. The hose finishers are what you slip over the steel braided hose after you cut to fit. They are not real AN fittings like folks think. They are a dress up slide on cover which I personally like. They are an extra charge as well but worth it for me.
Another reason to like the black set up is it wont't stand out and detour from the natural esthetics on the bike.
Looks like the 3GuyZ is listed for evo and twin cam, per their website. Dont know what would be different on an M-8. Guess I could ask them.
Looks nearly identical to the DK Customs set up. At least the forward mounting set up.
I bought the relocation kit from DK , and I couldn't be happier with it. Already had a washable filter, so it was an easy change. No more messes removing the filter, oil temp is down, according to my infrared thermometer. Installed on the left side frame down tube. In the wind, but out of the way. All the parts needed for install, and GOOD directions. I highly recommend this kit.
Far out!
I have an oil temp gauge that I installed in the faring and got rid of the air temp gauge. I didn't see the need of a thermometer to tell me it is hot or cold, My skin does a pretty good job of that. Anyway, it will be interesting to see the difference when I get it.
