I have a 2009 Ultra Classic FLHTCU. I would like to ask you a question about the Oil Filter Relocation Kit.
Regarding the oil lines goin from the OEM oil filter mount to the new location of the DK filter mount, how much oil do they contain and do they drain out when the oil filter is removed? Also, once the oil filter is replaced how long is the engine starved of oil while the oil lines are priming to get the oil back to the engine?
I do like the idea of the this relocation kit just need to know more about it before I commit to it. Are there any pros and cons to it?.
Thanks.
The Oil Filter Relo for your bike (which get relocated to under the left passenger floorboard as seen in the video below) adds about 4 ounces to total capacity. Most of the oil will drain out of the hoses when the oil filter is removed.
The engine is never starved for oil. Oil is pumped from the tank to the engine, and the tank will have plenty of oil in it.
We have also measured oil pressure and flow, and there is no difference in either with or without an oil filter relocation.

Thanks you for the photos, I like the idea of shorter tubes and a downward looking oil filter so I can fill the oil filter during installation. This will also be behind my lowers and out of sight as well. OK, I now have a plan. Thanks again Cornpipe.
The downtube mounted will not fit on a bike with lower fairings.
There is no oil pressure or oil flow downside to having longer lines running to the relocated filter.
DK claims a temp reduction of 8-10 deg F if I remember it right.
What one do you like best the Silver or the black?
Hey Mongo I like them both. I installed the black kit on the 20RKS and the polished aluminum one on the 16SGS. You can't go wrong with either one and it comes down to a personal choice.

Unless its been said already, I went with the down tube option. The only thing that needs filling is the new filter (besides the oil bag). This is now a mess free oil change.
I bought the relocation kit from DK , and I couldn't be happier with it. Already had a washable filter, so it was an easy change. No more messes removing the filter, oil temp is down, according to my infrared thermometer. Installed on the left side frame down tube. In the wind, but out of the way. All the parts needed for install, and GOOD directions. I highly recommend this kit.
