ive had stock, progressives, and ohlins 773s or something. theyre the 13" with preload and rebound adjustments, i cant remember the number. i wanted a pair with compression adjustment but you only get that on the ones with the remote rezi and im cheap as hell so i settled. i dont really see ohlins as being any better as far as ride goes, but support after the fact. they say theyll rebuild any shock theyve made. the progressives i had, i called to see about a rebuild and progressive said no, those shocks werent supported anymore, ohlins says theyll support any product theyve made.

I don't have those particular shocks but have the S36DR1L (HD159) shocks on my Ultra. They don't have remote reservoirs but they ride nice. The OEM air shocks were brutal no matter how much air was in them.

I dont do major touring at all.....yet.
Solo and 2 up......maybe 100 to 200 in a day.
I have noticed though that my lower back gets a bit uncomfortable after about 50 miles.
Maybe thats a shock thing.......or just posture.
well everybody is different..I'm 62 and have a high threshold and tolerance to pain and discomfort I think ..raced dirt bikes for so long and am pretty beat up but ride 15-20 K miles a year and plenty of 400 + mile days and get through them pretty well .. I used to upgrade suspension on Harleys, out of habit I guess from always upgrading on dirt bikes..one thing I learned is to alway do front and rear for the best balanced ride, cornering, control, braking, etc. I would not recommend upgrading one end without doing the other..and I would make sure they are set up properly..that's when you will really notice the improvements

I have a set of Howard's #3-#3's, or better known as Ohlin HD 772, Blackline 329 shocks on my Bagger. I really like them and they better than the others I tried...

Best...?? IMHO, that's too subjective a label to say for sure.. I certainly agree they are top tier... and the best for me that I've tried to date..

I also liked the introductory version of SuperShox I got for an older Bagger (now sold). They were new to Harley back in 2015.... Brian has made some good improvements since then and has many choices like Ohlins does.

if I were to replace my Ohlins, I would definitely look closely at SuperShox....

IMHO yes they are that good,I tour loaded for bear with the wife on board and they made a world of difference in my 2019 Electra Glide.
Not just ride quality but also handling, some of that can be attributed to Ohlins up front as well.
Best money I've spent on a bike in decades,it was spendy I dropped $3K all together with having my local indy do the installation
but if I had it to do over again I'd do it a heartbeat.
I had it done last year before a 3700 mile trip we took, made me wish I had done it the day I bought the bike new in 2019.

These touring bikes don't have very much travel, so don't you think a shock with a longer stroke would typically give a better ride?

Agreed, they are what I would put on the next bike. It really has made those long trips much more enjoyable, especially loaded down.

i meant as far as a comparably specd shock from progressive or the russ wernimont shock. you tune the ride with the built in adjustments.
