I have a 2010 ultra classic CVO that makes a heck of noise when I pull up and stop coming from the primary. If you look at the video when I rotate the main shaft back-and-forth it is that noise but quite a bit louder.
I replaced the compensator a year ago, thinking that was the issue. Chain tension is correct.
does anyone have any ideals?
The backlash in the transmission shaft is 100% normal. It's simply the movement that exist between rotation forward and back ward in the gears.
When you hear this are you still in gear? Are you downshifting as you slow down? Or have the clutch pulled in? Exactly when does the sound occur, and does it also make the noise slowing down with the clutch pulled in?
Does the noise go away when you pull in the clutch? Yes...inner primary bearing. Can you feel extra vibration while riding in any gear any engine speed? Main drive gear bearing may be bad. Sit on the bike with it not running kick stand up and slowly roll it backwards and forwards with it in neutral and the clutch pulled in. Can you "feel" any roughness or hear any crunchy type noises?
I hear it when I come to a stop and have the clutch pulled in like at a red light.It will also make the noise sitting in neutral while idling.
