nah..that was the issue I had when my sensor was trashed. swapped the sensor before I tore it down and the bike still ran but damaged the new sensor in short order which precipitated the teardown.

CPS will throw a code. They can be intermittent. CPS is a simple magnet they can go bad but not often . Check for a code.

@Pistol Pete 1911 Go to this FaceBook site and click on Files, type in 2006 in the search bar and scroll down to find the Electrical diagnostic manual. Download it to your hard drive.
The manual tells how to get the DTC's and in Section 5 the is a troubleshooting guide for starts then stalls.

Another way to ding the CKS is to twist the crank..

backfiring and coughing, then limp mode, and then once in the garage and shut off it would not start again
FWIW, the 06 does not have a limp mode.. More of a dying mode. Limp modes were coined for fly by wire EFI. The 06 is still fly by cable.

yes...i see a runout check in his future. when i had this carnage the runout was still in spec at 0.006.
