I have a 2011 ultra classic with a little over 20k miles. Never had an issue with it until yesterday. While riding on a somewhat rough road, I hit a small bump and the radio shut off for about 3 seconds and then came back on. It did this twice. Then, when I hit a slightly larger bump, the whole bike shut off for a split second. It also did this twice with several miles in between. Runs fine like normal. Voltage meter good, checked battery cables etc. I don’t see anything obvious yet. I love the bike so this is driving me nuts. Anyone else had this issue? Any input/advice on what to try greatly appreciated!
Couple of things to check before you go down the rabbit hole. Check the OTHER ends of the battery cables, if you haven't already - The starter and the engine ground near the starter. Take that ground off and clean the crimped terminal and the mounting surface really well. The other thing is the main 50 Amp fuse. The pinch contacts that the fuse blades go into have been known to get loose and cause contact issues.
If it's neither of those and you have aftermarket handlebars, I'd be checking for a chafed wire to the kill switch.
There is one last thing, this sounds REALLY silly but I've seen it happen, and not only to me, the kill switch can be bumped by the throttle hand during really rough bumps. Just saying...
