I have an '07 Ultra. I was wondering if any body has run out of fuel. So I guess my question is how far you can go after the fuel light comes on. I know the gage is not all that accurate. I have gone 15 miles with the light on till I got to a gas station that sold fuel with a high enough octane for the bike. Thanks!
the fuel guage and warning light were built by the same chinese company that built the air temp guage. None are accurate or predictable. the light on my UC comes on at various times after the guage shows 1/2 full. i can run the scoot for 40+ miles after the guage shows empty. I average about 37-40 mpg, so use the odometer to tell me when I need to start worrying about fuel.
I was told when my light comes on, I have half a gallon left. I get about 35 mpg so that means 16 to 17 miles right? Well I was about 10 miles from home so I kept cruising. Thank God there's a gas station on the corner or I wouldn't have made it. My light means pull over now.
When the fuel light comes on I've got about 20-25 miles before I'm EMPTY, so I head to the nearest gas station IMMEDIATELY when the fuel light comes on. That last "half" tank goes really fast.
Just learn your own bike so you know how your gauge is. Run it down to the fuel light then watch how many miles you go and when you fill up you know the tank is 5.2 gallons max... This tells you what you had left after however many miles you went past the fuel light.
Seems like it varies from bike to bike. My 07 Ultra light comes on when there is 1 gallon left. It has been consistent.
My 03 came on at 1.5 gallons left and was consistent.
Try to get gas asap after the light comes on a few times and you will get a good
feel for when to gas up.
The 08 models have a new toy. When the fuel light comes on, it tells you how many miles you can ride on that tank of gas. Mine showed 37 miles. I put my trust in stopping at the first gas station. Those 37 miles sure did click off at a faster rate.
The light on my 07 SGcomes on with a gallon left in the tank. The most I have ever put in is 4.7 gallons. That is a little closer to empty than I like to go.
