I did the IDS on my 07 R.K. last weekend. What a difference!!! Mine wasn't too bad before, compared to what others were saying, but, imo, everyone with an 07 should do it. It also eliminated about 90% of the 5th gear whine. Zanotti's should get an award for taking care of the people, that most other dealers take for granted.

Here is a little caveat: There is a special tool for installing the bearing into the IDS. Some of you have done the "shade tree" method of cooling the bearing and heating the hub. When my dealer installed mine (it was their first one), they didn't have the special tool. I mentioned to the tech how some of you guys on this forum did it. He followed the suggestion, put the bearing in their freezer, and putting the hub out in the sun for an hour. It all looked good.

Now, 3500 miles later, the bearings in the hub are toast. I have a loud clunking noise coming from the IDS. The shop is going to replace the whole kit for me under warranty, but the tech believes the method he used could have cracked the race a bit, leading to the failure.

Just a heads up, guys.

I got the IDS and I got a Thundermax. The IDS came first. Noticably smoother. Talk about smooth put a Thunder max on an 07 and you'll think you died and went to hevan. This thing is awsome. At $695.00 it ain't cheap but I can't imagine getting more bang for the buck than this sucker.
Where did you buy your Tmax? Did you get the autotune?

Dropped my Ultra off at the shop today to have the IDS installed. I asked about the "elbow grease" special and they didn't know about it, but after just a couple of minutes looking at some papers the service manager came back and said, "sure enough, we'd just as soon bill the MoCo as bill you."

I might get it done thursday or Friday this week...depending on weather and whatnot.

I bought mine online and told the dealer that i was going to do it myself and then I heard about he deal...he said bring it in and lets get it installed! they should not care if you buy it from them...I bet they would rather you paid full stealership price..as they will make 100 bucks on it at least...plus the 100 for the installation....

It sure would be great if someone could post that paper. My dealer continues to deny that deal exists.

I agree with Beancount1 maybe someone can get a copy of thepaper work or maybe a link to so we can copy it and take it to the dealer. Local dealer is playing dumb.

Actually, the tech used a 2x4 across the bearing. This guy has been a Harley tech for 28 years and is no dummy. He wasn't too happy doing that way when he did it, but was trying to do the job for me. It is fixed now, and the replacement bearing was shipped with a "special tool". Chris said it went right in. All is well again.
