Default Change in windshield

I have a 2005 Ultra, and am thinking of changing the windshield from stock (edge of windshield directly in line-of-sight) to HD's 9" lightly smoked. While this may solve my problem and allow me to look over the top edge, what effect, if any, will it have on wind buffeting my passenger? Anyone with experience in this? Thanks in advance...

I've had good luck with the 9' windshield. no problem with the wind all the way up to 90 mph.

I had the low profile windshield (which I think is the 9") on my last couple ultras with no problem. It's great to be able to look over the shield and makes it easier when riding in the rain. My little shield (see below) is a blast (in more ways than one) and I think looks great but it puts the wind in my face. I still love it.

I am 5'6" and run a 6 in shield... I wanted to try different heights but buying the shields were going $$$. That is until I met this guy in Reno http://www.fastaire.com/windshields.html I have been running his shields now for over a year and I love them and the price is so good,, buy a few... You can't go wrong and his customer service is Great

I had asked this question a while back but never received an answer.........

Now that I have a fairing on my RK Classic I will be buying different size windshields. Is the measurement taken at the center of the windshield just on the exposed part of the shield? So basically sit the tape measue on the highest part of the front fairing lip and measure to the upper edge of the windshield.

Thanks for the help,
Brian

Michael:

Thanks for the information on the windshields. And the prices are really great, too.

Yes, that's where you measure from. I also checked out the link to Fastaire windshields. Heck, the prices are about 20% of what HD wants for the same thing. Check them out!

Like I said,,, I am 5'6" and run the 6 inch shield... I have a new 8" but have never used it... but at around $26.00, Hell buy several.... At first I thought, how can a $26 shield be any good.... Well, they are just fine,, and if you find you don't like a certin height... no big loss... If you call him,, tell hime the Turlock Fire Fighter sent ya...

My EG police came with a 12" windshield, first rain storm i got stuck in was when i decided to get the slightly tinted 9" windshield, could see over the top edge of the 12" nor did the wipes to shed the water off seem to work well either, the 9" is perfect for me. still have plenty of protection and now can look over the top when i ride in the rain. wife has never said she has noticed any difference in wind with the shorter windshield. i'm 5' 10",stock pillow style seat.
