Winter Storage
Yup, I put her away in a friends heated garage that is kept between 65 and 72 degrees. I only put sta-bil in the tank and put a bed sheet over it to cover it, but I will go over sometime this winter and wash/wax the bike. When I take it out of storage I always ride it until it is almost out of fuel, then I re-fuel - just something I always did with my Mustang too.
When I had the V-Star and then the Sportster I just did the recommended long term storage procedure with those for the winter and kept them in the shed on the mcl. jack and covered over.
Now, with the RK I have decided to store itat my indy's shop (for a fee of course) wherethere's a constant temp and he changes the fluids, keeps the battery charged and moves it around from time to time so as to keep the tires from flatspotting. For me, it's money well spent for the peace of mind and I can go visit throughout the winter.

Just wondering what most of you do with your ride during the winter months in preping it for storage.
What do you do to set your bike up for storage?

If your garage is not heated, will that matter on any of the bike parts?

Okay....now that ah've funned ya, lemme try ta give ya some "straight" answers. Now, bear in mind that the above answers more closely fit mah situation, since it's rare that more'n a week goes by whar ah can't git out on the road, but the below is based on many years of observations of yer fellow yankees, an' the stuff they gotta do.

I'm in the Northeast and last winter we had a warm day and I pulled the cover off my bike and about had a heart attack! It was covered with condensation. We have an unheated garage. Fixed that problem. Bought a low profile trailer and have the bike in it in the garage on a battery tender.
Heated storage????? Depends where you live. It's not how hot or how cold but how great the temperature excursions are that the chrome will see due to weather changes. The different rates of expansion and contraction btween the chrome and the base metal will, over the long run, create those hairline cracks in the chrome that eventually rust. It may take a few years or many years but large temperature changes take their toll over time.
Constant, low humidity environment is the best for winter storage. I'd keep mine in the living room if it were up to me. LOL
Just my .02/experience.
