Default cam questions

Am riding a 2000 Ultra with 35k miles. Purchased this bike from original owner and dealer did all maintenance at HD intervals. Has Stage 1 done. SE mufflers Rest is untouched. After reading all the articles on tensioners have decided to pull apart this winter and make some changes. Almost 98% of my riding is 2 up and am not looking for top end speed. Want bottom torque from idle to 3500 rpm. What cams are you running for this riding style? Also I am thinking about going with adjustable push rods and staying with chain and not going with gear drive, just replacing tensioners and chain if necessary. Also, is it necessary to add power commander when doing this drop in cam mod. Thanks for all opinions in advance. Ride safe, Mark

Three popular choices are HQ-0034, Andrews 21,& Andrews 26.

Results with any of the three are only as good as your tune... so plan to get that PCIII custom mapped.

Since you are planning on this change because you have read about tensioners being worn, doesn't it make more sense to go with a gear drive cam? Then, you will not have to think about it again? I'm just saying. I know, if I had the cash, I would change my cams, and since I would be in there, might as well go with gear drive. Plus, I do believe that gear drive will help, albeit a little, with hp and torque. Which, you and I both are after.

I have an SE Air Kit and SE Slip-Ons. Recently I went with SE 203 cams, EZ Adjustable Push Rods and new Lifters but stayed with the chain drive.

Like yourself, I wanted more oomph in the 2500-3500 rpm range especially when riding 2-up and also when pulling out to pass. This set-up has given me exactly what I was looking for.
With respect to the cam shoe issues vs. gear drive, just have the shoes checked every 20,000 miles.

I also added the Power Commander so that I could adjust the air-fuel map and also so that if I decided to change anything else, I wouldn't have to buy the Harley download each time something was changed.

I like the wood cams. I tried different ones on other bikes but the wood cam is the best I have ever used. These pull stong through all the gears all the way to the top.

S&S .510G gear drive cams
Top quality !
Why do you want to keep the cam chain ?
Gear drive means more accurate cam timing
+ 4 HP and more power in low and mid.
I would also go for the PC111 USB
