I will second tn.heritage. Buy the EG standard and have a great time modifing it to your desires.

IMHO

TJ seems to like the frame-mounted fairing rather than the batwing (same as I feel) so only the FLTRI will do. TJ, I've also seen/heard mention of oil consumption problems and CD player skipping on the 06's - but both sound to me like "some do, some don't" sorta things. As for my Road Glide, it's still in the "dream phase" so I can't speak from any personal experience. All I know is that I'd rather have one of those, than deal with R1150RT spline and other problems, or the HAL9000-like R1200RT. No bike is perfect, so you might as well get the one you really dig, so that if a problem comes up, you can feel like it's still worth it to keep the darn thing.

Just follow up on the "air-shocks". Unless theres an obvious leak, no need to be overly fussy. Adjust when needed for added weight when touring. Q: R-U going to ride and use this as a "touring" machine or a funky customized bagger in contant dissaray? If yer a RIDER like me, the shock spring (internally) tend to lose their memory after less than 20K. This is gradual, but if yer like me at 125,000 mi. you notice their GONE. But when fairly new, they werk just fine. Progressive 440s are very nice, but unforgiving. Progressive 416's (air shocks) are better IMO. Genuine upgrade over stock.
All your other issues covered well!!!!!!!!!!!!

ORIGINAL: mooks005

RCS - what length Progressive 440's does the SG take? Do you remember the model number you put on?
The Street Glide has OEM 12" air shocks. I replaced them with 12.5" Progressive 440 Heavy Duty shocks (don't recall the P/N), was an uncomplicated 30 minute change out after I got my bike up on the lift. It only raised my bike up a measurable .25" after install, and the ride was 200 percent better.

regards

Had my Street Glide since August and I put more miles on it than my truck. I Love it. It's my favorite bike in over 20 years of riding.

Problems.

1. The inner Fairing Recall due to improperly mounted mirrors.

2. Fork lock locked up on me at a hotel 4 hours from home.

I did the Stage 1 Screaming Eagle intake, Screaming Eagle Performace Exhaust and had her dyno'd and she has lots of torque. I get a serious amount of good comments on how this bike looks and I'm extremely pleased.

Get a Street Glide, you won't regret it for a minute.

IMHO if your a rider the Ultra is the only way to go. Dont get me wrong I love my TC, but I ride 2 up 95% of the time. And the Ultra is better for long didtance than the TC. It all depends on how you ride.

I disagree with some of the posts- consider the Electra Glide Classic- you get the sound system, fairing, and full luggage. You can add cruise control for about $400 and you're all set.

Now, this is coming from a guy who had an '03 anniversary Ultra and never used the CB or Intercom. I took the lower fairings off when I got it home from the dealer (too hot for me) and both my wife and I thought that the rear speakers got in the way.

To each their own, but the Classic will save you over $3,000 from the Ultra and you won't have to spend as much $$ as you would customizing a Standard.

You can't go wrong with the bagger. If you don't care for chrome the go with the EG but for 2K more you can have the new SG with more and a radio. I have a SG and it's the best thing since slice bread IMO.

HD is having major problems with their new FI. Im being told that the 06 models are starting to get the EPA standard requirements for the computers.(w/or w/out the o2 sensors, which should soon be standard on all models in the near future). Some models are having surging problems at low speeds and at idle. And if you try to make modificatons (pipes, etc) GOOD LUCK! Because as far as im being told ther isnt a fix yet. But I heard the after market companies are tuning their pipes and they will be on the market soon.(through the grapevine im hearing about this). If you purchase and have these problems, make sure you can trust your dealers techs. I heard some dont know what to do and they are f__king up the computers and then having to contact HD for the code to undo and remap the computers. I dont understand...20k and HD still cannot get it right!!! No wonder why the foreign bikes are seeing an increase in sales!!(still not a HD but what the F__k!?!) So do some major homework b4 you buy, I was going to buy an 06 till I heard of these problems. I know a good wrench who fixes problems that the local HD dealers highly trained techs cannot figure out, and he is working on the problems now. He is going to let me know soon. He told me its only a matter of time. This dude fixed my 01 EFI Road King without using an aftermarket computer, by making some adjustments that the dealers would not touch, let alone try and figure out. I have V&H pipes, stage 1, and no aftermarket computer(not even the SERT or a dyno tune) and the bike runs better than the day a bought it!
