Looking to expand my stable and found a nice cobalt2006SG w/ 1200milesonline for $15k. Before, I make the owner an offer, I'd like to hear opinions about the 2006 model years. Any problems with them? Pro's/Con's?Since this is an '06, how much difference is there between the 88 and the 96? Im going to be travellingwith my girl on this ride so I want to have more than enough power. Also, I cant remember but is the '06 a 5 speed tranny? The guys advertisement does not say. Major benefits by opting for a 6-speed instead?Any input is appreciated. Thanks!
No problems to speak of with my '06. I did replace the stock windshield with a larger one because the stock shield sucks. I also had problems with the brakes squealing but the dealer swapped the rotors and now everything is fine. The Tranny is a 5 speed and the stock motor is a 88 c.i. which I think is more then enough power but I don't do a lot of two up riding.
Nice price and a great bike.
Ps. The stock seat sucks and will be replaced this winter with a Mustang or comfort stitch seat.
No trouble with mine riding two up. Have ,ade personal changes and added the PCIII but nothing major. Average about 42-46 mpg riding solo and about 38-42 two up.
I love my 06..it's carbed(Mikuni), w/cams/ignition module & exhaust...I run with almost any "mild" build...20k miles...no problems at all....I love it and will run with it till it explodes...then I'll rebuild it and do it again. LOL
I've definately weaked mine enough to make it unique, these things are everywhere right now...I picked mine up in Nov of 05 and was the only one around for a while...now everybody's got one.....lol what are ya gonna do...I really think you'll enjoy the bagger life...
I'm running an 07 but have ridden several 05/06's . The power difference is not that much . Having a six speed is nice ,especially on the freeway but with the 5 there is no 5th gear whine. If you plan on going up , a 103 BB on an 07 is the same as a 95 BB on and earlier bike . That's a good price on a great bike. I would hunt around for an 07 as they are making good deals . You can also check the HD website for used bikes and specify year and model , that's how I saved a bunch on my last ride.
I have on 06. I have about 13k on it right now. From day 1 I have had numerous problems with it. At 1,000 miles I had to have 4th gear replaced. At 2, 500 my tail light went out. They tracked it down to a wire behind the fairing. 11,000 miles handle bar lock and ignition wouldn't unlock. Had to have it trailered to a dealer and a new ignition put on. CD player works half the time. I've taken it in 3 times and all they say is nothing is wrong with it. Basicly it just stops working while riding. Currently I have paint flaking off on the frame on the right side. So it looks like I have some work and painting to do this winter. I picked this bike up 1 year and 5 months ago.
Now for upgrades, before I even picked the bike up from the dealer I had a 95"BB kit put in with 203 cams, Stage II intake, PCIII and Rinehart TD.
Everytime I ride I'm always looking for a 6th gear. The speed limit on the turnpike is 75 and I run about 80. I have thought about installing a Baker 6 speed. I think I will just hold on to this one and pay it off and buy a 07-08 Road Glide next.
Before you buy a Street Glide ride a Road Glide first. I wish I had before I purchased mine.
