I got sick of the license plate underneath the tourpak. So, I relocated the plate using two "P or "Adel" clamps (the diameter of the saddlebag guard tube is 5/8").
Then, I bought a license plate light kit from Dennis Kirk ($19.99), and wired it, through the light bar to the brake light. I had a black leather plate made to fit the exposed license plate bracket underneath the tourpak. When the bike is running, the original license plate light shines right on the silver bar and shield. It looks pretty cool.
I'm interested in changing the instrument lights on my 96 FLHTCI. Any information you could share as far as problems I may incounter with the speedbo and tach and also what bulbs will replace the HD bulbs from AutoZone. Any information would be most appreciated. Thanks
iPod set up on SG. I installed the Harmon Kardon iDrive and mounted a new generation iPod Nano inside the fairing. 1,000 songs, access to playlists, etc. Easy to operate and in view while riding. A baggy over the **** and display if it rains. Over 3,000 miles and no problems. $25.00 including shipping off ebay.
Chassis Jack for lifting back of bike to take wheel out:
Used an old car jack and added a plate for stability and a steel bar to go across the bottom of the frame brace. If you don't add the steel bar, you'll bend the frame brace (not a good thing).
You can see it about midway up the frame in the pic below.
Also went to work and welded up a chassis lifting thingy for when I work on the front end of the bike:
Notice it's tied down at the back. Just in case.........
Lifts it high enough I can roll the front wheel out.
Looks good. They sell one for like $100. Yours I like better. Hand made at it's best. Only thing I would do different is to saw the handle off, and figure a way to make it removable. And, ya might want to add some foam to the top rail, to keep from maring the frame rails (I bet an old garden hose cut length wise would work).

Thanks. I thought of making the handle removable, but then I have two piecs to store and I think I would lose the rigidity of it.
I used to have a piece of foam pipe insulation wrapped around it, but it didn't last long. So yeah the garden hose piece is a great idea. Now I know what I'm doing tommorow over coffee!!!
Don't know why I never tried that. The Chassis lift is actually alot faster to use than the jack. Slide it into position, hang on to the bike with one hand and push/pull with the other to lever the bike up.
Actually I wonder if the chassis lift/lever would work to raise the back end up. Hmmmmm......will have to try it. Back end has to come up pretty high to get the rear wheel out though.
