I have an Electraglide with the locking gas cap cover with the barrel key type lock. If you ever go off without your key and need gas your screwed. I keep a spare key I had for a freezer lock in my saddlebag and it opens the gas cap but it doesn't work in the start switch so I don't have to worry about leaving it in the saddlebag.
Never have to worry about getting to a gas station and not being able to get gas again.

Merry Christmas Y'all
I was so excited to try this that I went out in the cold garage and uncovered the Ultra to check it out. I actually have a spare key from a Fatboy I sold last year (the guy never came back for the spare). It worked perfectly. It opens the gas cap cover but doesn't operate the ignition. I'll now keep this "gas key" in the saddle bags at all times. Now I need to find a way to keep it from ratteling around.
Thanks for the tip.

Black duct tape!

My dealer once told me that you can also use a long screwdriver and push it up from underneath the tank console in the front to open the door.

I don't use it much but when I need it I hope my wife is on back.
I even took a few pieces of heat shrink and topped it off and it looks really close to stock on the end.
They say there is a minimum lengh you can cut it too, which mine is cut at, maybe 30 in.. It doesn't get in the way much.
I cut the bottom on mine.

Hell anybody can lose a key, including the ignition key. I carry a spare ignition key, same as my truck. Why just the concern about the gas lid.

Git a replacement one like they use fer the odometer reset button - it's a momentary contact switch! Jest install it alongside yer other one, ya won't even notice it.

Bein' ****, ah took a horn switch, swapped the covers, an' installed the auxillary switch holders on the bars, an' put that switch in thar.....

I wanted my speaker bezels to match the gauges. So, I bought the Harley Front Speaker trim, dremeled the center piece off, sanded the the rough edges and painted them silver w/ Testors silver enamel. Now, the entire cockpit matches.

I bought high dollar shorty antennas and they don't work worth a hoot in West Virginia. The whips work fine here though.

I think any barrel HD key will work to open any gas cap door. I found out when another guy asked me to unlock his door because he had forgot his key at home.

License plate mount holes. I didn't want the big covers so I used license plate bolts. Three big ole spikes and for the fourth hole I'm going to put a bar and shield bolt there once I get it. I think I'm going to paint it gloss black though when I get the bar and shield.
